Futures capitalise on social investment experience with the appointment of Matt Davis

Our view

Matt Davis joined Futures Advice, Skills and Employment in August and brings with him more than 17 years’ worth of experience in the voluntary sector (VCS), having worked for national, local and regional charities, social businesses and social housing providers. Matt has primarily worked across London and the East Midlands.

Matt’s experience of high-value fundraising is broad, having worked on projects supporting children and young people, health and wellbeing, homelessness, sports regeneration, business support, capital investment and creative arts to name just a few. Matt is passionate about making a difference to people’s lives.

John Yarham, Futures’ Chief Executive, says, “Matt brings with him experience and knowledge that strengthens our leadership team as we seek to expand into new areas of business. We look forward to using his expertise in diversifying our offer. We have an exceptional track record of successfully delivering what our funders want, whilst maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction. We are excited about the additional opportunities Matt’s experience brings”.

Futures is an Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’ social enterprise at the forefront of providing expert jobs and skills advice, training and apprenticeships to support young people and adults into work or training. Matt will be leading the growing business development team in all aspects of income generation and business development. A particular focus will be to develop Futures’ approach to social investment and payment by results contracts.

Matt is really interested in the different funding streams and structures that are essential in the VCS today and has a great deal of experience in generating grant income, corporate fundraising, contracting and procurement, community fundraising, appeals and events. Matt has an increasing interest and activity in social investment and payment by results contracts.

Over the last ten years Matt has worked on successful Social Investment Bonds (SIBs) including: the Youth Engagement Fund; Commissioning Better Outcomes; Fair Chance; Big Potential; and Life Chances Fund. Matt says, “Social investment is an increasingly important source of income for the voluntary sector and I’m very interested in the opportunities that this presents for Futures and the voluntary sector as a whole. Futures has such a strong record of delivering on payment by results contracts, such as the National Careers Service, making social investment a perfect opportunity. Futures already has experience of delivering a successful Social Impact Bond and we’re working on three more opportunities at the moment”.

Futures is currently working with Triodos Bank to develop its social investment strategy and is excited about the experience and knowledge that Matt and the team at Triodos bring.
